The Bettor’s Guide to the US Tennis Open 2013
Tuesday, August 13th, 2013
This year, Brits can look upon tennis with a grand sense of triumph. Homegrown talent, Andy Murray, displayed a spectacular performance at last year’s US Tennis Open, and has continued his stunning streak throughout the year. Further still, the national hero brought home a long-awaited Wimbledon trophy for Brits, as well as a Gold Medal winning performance at our own Olympics in 2012.
But is Murray still a favourite to defend his US Tennis Open title? While we’re all rooting for a British victory, the more experienced bettors among us will be dissecting and analysing the odds to find where the money is.
Luckily for us, Andy Murray boasts the best odds for the 2013 Grand Slam. He’s undoubtedly keen to defend his title and take home the gold at the US Tennis Open again this year. However, he’s sure to be a hot favourite at the bookies too, meaning that he may not be the most profitable bet among this year’s top four.
Betters wanting to place a bigger gamble for a bigger payoff may want to place their luck on Serbian player Novak Djokovic. After Murray snatched victory away from Djokovic at Wimbledon this year, you can bet the Serb will be eager to overthrow Murray at this year’s US Tennis Open. As a finalist, both at the French Opening and Wimbledon, Djokovic may be in with a chance of victory.
Our top four is completed by Spanish player Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. Nadal did, however, miss out in 2012 due to a knee injury – and this may still hinder his performance. As it stands, the least likely of the four to win is Federer, having lost a great deal of status due to some poor performances in the past year.
Of course, a great deal of speculation also surrounds the women’s matches. The women’s US Tennis Open has a history of unpredictability, with 6 different champions in the past 9 years. If your more conservative betting habits leave you wary, you may feel more confident getting in on one of Panda Sweep’s free sweepstakes.
Last year’s victor Serena Williams has great odds to win again this year, despite her slightly disappointing performance at Wimbledon. But despite that, Williams has demonstrated solid performance in the last year, so she’s a relatively safe bet for 2013.
If you’re looking for a dark horse, however, Maria Sharapova suffered a second round defeat at Wimbledon, but will be keen to prove herself. Sharapova took first place in the US Open once before, so her victory in the 2013 tournament is certainly within the realm of possibility. Victoria Azarenko has 5/1 odds as well this year, being a young competitor at just 23, and a semi-finalist in the past five grand slams. This young player may be ready to take home the gold this year.
If you want to get involved with this year’s tennis action, why not partake in one of Panda Sweeps’ exciting sweepstakes? With great odds and better chances of a profit than with the bookies, it’s a safe bet.
