So what’s going on in the world of A-League?
Another week, another story. This week it is all bad for the cashed up Melbourne City. Superstar David Villa has confirmed he will be departing earlier than expected making a move back to the USA to join New York City after round 4 of the A-league. Disappointing news for the City but having had him on Australian soil has been a pleasure nonetheless.
It gets from bad to worse for Melbourne City with the confirmation of a calf injury for marquee signing Robert Koren. Pre season predictions were that Koren would be the find of the year. Unfortunately Melbourne City will have to wait to see reap (the hoped for) fruits of their labour; Koren is expected to be out up until at least December.
Wondering what’s on? We’ve got you covered. Here’s this rounds matches and where you might want to put your money.
This Round’s Matches
Round 3
Fri 24 Oct Brisbane Roar v Sydney FC
Brisbane have no outs this week but have had a bad run. 2 losses from 2 games means this is a must win game for them. Sydney is on the board with a win and a draw, they seem to be getting their act together slowly. In saying this there is a lot on the line for Brisbane and considering they are playing at home Pepper expects a 2-2 draw.
Sat 25 Oct Western Sydney v Central Coast
POSTPONED due to ACL Final
Sat 25 Oct Melbourne Victory v Melbourne City
Mouth watering derby, this will be as explosive as the Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory derby of last week. Both teams are playing some great football. Pepper is finding it hard to split the teams this week and this is another draw 2-2
Sun 26 Oct Wellington Phoenix v Newcastle Jets
Wellington are looking good this year. They played some good football in round 1 against Perth but couldn’t finish in front of goal and in round 2 they seem to have rectified this with a 2-1 win over the Mariners away. Ernie Merick seems to have the confidence up and because of this Pepper predicts a 2-1 win to the Phoenix.
Sun 26 Oct Adelaide United v Perth Glory
Perth Glory are flying, two wins from two games. They aren’t playing the prettiest football but it is effective. United are chugging along nicely and have made the FFA Cup final having beaten Sydney FC mid week in over time. Pepper expects some of the players to feel the effects of the extra kilometres they put through their legs in this over time clash. Also with the prediction of hot weather on Sunday for this game the United players may fatigue early. Add to this Glory’s new found confidence and this could be the surprise of the round. Pepper predicts Perth to win 3-1.
