So what’s going on in the world of A-League?
It’s Round 6 and this week’s issues involve the cream of the crop being taken from some of the clubs for international duty against Japan. Matt Mckay, Mark Milligan, Mitch Nichols and Aaron Mooy are all in the Socceroos training camp to face Japan.
Worthy of note is Terry Antonis who was called up for Socceroos duty only to be involved in a minor car accident on the way to the airport. He was taken to hospital and thankfully only had minor neck and head injuries. Subsequently the FFA ruled him out of the clash with Japan and he returned to Sydney. Here is the twist in the story, it goes something like this; according to FIFA statutes a player who is selected for international duty but is then withdrawn through injury or illness is no longer allowed to represent his/her club during the period that they have been released from for international duty. This means technically Antonis is ineligible to play for Sydney this weekend. Sydney have come out and said he was eligible to play for the Socceroos but was advised to stay in Sydney. Wondering what’s on? We’ve got you covered. Here’s this rounds matches and where you might want to put your money.
This Round’s Matches
Round 6
Fri 14 Nov Newcastle Jets v Brisbane Roar
It’s simple both teams must win. If Brisbane lose they can begin the process of saying goodbye to their season. Brisbane haven’t pieced it together this year and with experienced goal keeper Michael Theo out for another few weeks they are in trouble. His replacement Jamie Young had a stinker last week and his teammate Shane Stefanutto let him know about it at full time in an ugly and very public verbal stoush. Confidence is down and public bickering is always a sign that the house is not in order. Panda predicts 2-0 Newcastle.
Sat 15 Nov Adelaide United v Wellington Phoenix
Adelaide have made to the FFA cup final midweek with a formidable win over Central Coast 3-2. A couple pieces of loose defending resulting in CCM’s 2 goals. It will be a tough battle, the weather was very warm mid week Panda expects United to be fatigued. In saying this they are playing beautiful football. United to win 1-0 only just.
Sat 15 Nov Sydney FC v Melbourne Victory
The BIG BLUE, one of the biggest fixtures in the A-League calendar. Both teams are cruising and will be taking this very seriously. Neither one of these teams will want to lose and they will defend accordingly. Tight affair, Panda predicts 1-1.
Sat 15 Nov Perth Glory v Western Sydney
Perth are the new boys on the block, they are on top of the ladder and ready for any obstacle that faces them. On the other hand time is up for WSW, they have won the Asian Champions League, they have celebrated and enjoyed this excuse for their lapse in A-League form. This pardon from fans is over and WSW must start winning. Over in Perth Panda predicts a draw. 1-1
Sun 16 Nov Melbourne City v Central Coast
Melbourne City are slowly piecing the puzzle together and the Mariners are not. When defending against Adelaide mid week in the FFA cup they looked horrible. In the second half they came out and attacked and looked much better however they lost star striker Matt Simon to injury. CCM will be tired from their mid week game and they don’t have the depth or quality that Adelaide do. They will struggle this week and away in Melbourne against City. Panda predicts a solid win for the Citonians. Melbourne City 3-0.
