So what’s going on in the world of A-League?

A couple of big news items this week in the world of A-League. The first being the signing of Aussie speedster Nikita Rukavytsya to the Western Sydney Wanderers. Rukavytsya is a capped Socceroo and has spent the last 4 years honing his craft in Germany. Finding himself with limited game time at FSV Frankfurt he has decided to come back to Australia to join Coach Tony Popovic to reclaim the form of previous years.

The other man in the headlines is the grumpy Matt Mckay who saw red for a foul mouthed rant at referee Ben Williams. Having been yellow carded for a foul, Mckay showed his displeasure in, let’s just say, an ‘expressive’ manner. For his efforts he was rewarded with a two match ban that the Brisbane Roar have accepted and will not appeal.

Wondering what’s on? We’ve got you covered. Here’s this rounds matches and where you might want to put your money.

This Round’s Matches

Round 2

Fri 17 Oct Adelaide United v Melbourne

Make no mistake this game is a straight out win at all costs rivalry. These two teams do not like each other one bit and this fixture rarely goes by without fireworks. Victory were superb last week against a below par Sydney FC while Adelaide United got the job done against the Roar without being brilliant. Adelaide United did not impress in the front third and while this game should be competitive Victory’s quality may just be too much for United at the moment. With the Victory’s confidence running high from last week Pepper predicts a 3-1 win to the Melbournians.

Sat 18 Oct Central Coast v Wellington Phoenix

Wellington Phoenix looked good against the Glory last week however numerous missed chances in front of goal meant they walked away 2-1 losers. Central Coast got the job done against the Jets and with the Phoenix travelling away from home Pepper expects 1-0 win to CCM.

Sat 18 Oct Sydney FC v Western Sydney

The Sydney Derby is a sight to behold and music to the ears. Pepper has personally attended the Sydney Derby and this is a game where the Panda hairs stood up on the back of the neck. This is another game where passion and ferocity has a tendency to boil over. The Wanderers were horrible last week and Sydney FC not much better. Sasha Ognenovksi had a nightmare for Sydney FC and Golec followed suit for the WSW. This game may hinge on the final team line ups. With Topor Stanley returning from national duty Coach Tony Popovic has stated he will wait to see him when he returns before making a decision. Likewise Arnold has some decisions to make on his players returning from national duty. (Bernie Ibini, Marc Janko and Shane Smeltz). Pepper predicts some goals and a draw for this one. 2-2.

Sun 19 Oct Melbourne City v Newcastle Jets

Melbourne City were fantastic and a joy to watch last week. Damien Duff was superb and uncontainable on the wing while David Villa was clinical when he came on in the second half. While City weren’t perfect and only had a draw against an average Sydney FC Pepper expects them to improve this week. David Villa will start the game and this will only magnify the issues the Jets have to deal with. Pepper predicts 3-0 to Melbourne City.

Sun 19 Oct Perth Glory v Brisbane Roar

It’s hard to judge where the Glory are at this early in the season however a decent win away against Wellington is undoubtedly a great start. Pepper feels they were a bit lucky to have not conceded more goals and with the reigning champions Brisbane out for redemption after a lacklustre performance against Adelaide Pepper predicts a 1-0 win for Brisbane.
